Mount Coolum, Sunshine Coast

Mount Coolum is a small beachfront coastal community just South of Coolum between Yaroomba (to the North) and Marcoola (to the South). Most famous for it's beautiful mountain, Mt Coolum is a dominant figure on the Central Sunshine Coast coastline and can be climbed for spectacular views North to Noosa, South to Maroochydore and Mooloolaba and even Caloundra and the Glass House Mountains on a clear day.

Coolum's Golf Courses

A golfers paradise, Mount Coolum also has two gold courses, the Mt Coolum Golf Club situated near the base of Mount Coolum and the Hyatt Coolum Golf Course to the North near Yaroomba. Both are great courses and Mt Coolum Golf Club and The Hyatt have different audiences, but you'd be mad not to have a round at both. The Hyatt's driving range and putting greens are quite good also, as is the renowned golf course.

Mt Coolum Accommodation

Mount Coolum Accommodation is plentiful and you can find a room for any budget. At the higher end, Hyatt Coolum is always a popular option with World class facilities and excellent reputation. Another more luxurious option would be to privately hire a beachfront holiday home in nearby Yaroomba and really take in some amazing views at one of the Sunshine Coast's most popular surfing beaches.

Most of the Mt Coolum accommodation is around 3 to 4 star and very reasonable priced. Due to the location of Mt Coolum, it's a little cheaper than nearby Coolum and also a little quieter. If you are into golf, it's a great spot.

For the serious budget traveler, heading slightly North to Coolum Beach and staying at a backpackers would be advisable. Other nearby options include, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba to the South, or Coolum and Peregian Beach to the North.

Mount Coolum Beach, Surfing + Swimming

The beachfront at Mt Coolum is very quiet and not that busy making for a great place for an uninterrupted walk or surf. The Northern part of the beach frontage is owned by Hyatt Coolum and used as part of their golf course but you can still use the beach. International travelers please be advised not to swim on open beaches without life guards preset and swim between the flags. Sadly while beautiful, our beaches can be dangerous at times and tourists are always put in danger by not being aware of the power of the ocean. That said, on a nice day with small surf, Sunshine Coast beaches are extremely safe, in fact some of the safest in the World.

Mt Coolum Services

There are local shops with a selection of take away, convenience and bottle shops and also a bus service heading both North and South to all major destinations. If traveling from Brisbane Airport, arrange a transfer service, or if using the Citytrain rail service, change at Nambour for a bus service North to Coolum Beach or Noosa Beach.
